I have been on Soma for about 2 months but it makes my stomach hurt so badly. Dr. has presribed other things but nothing works as well as the Soma. Does anyone know of a medication (nothing narcotic) that works the same or has the effect as the Soma. Now that I have read the addictive information would like to try something different. Thank you.

Soma can be addictive, but that is no reason to not try it to see if it has any therapeutic value for you? It is easier to discontinue than a Benzodiazepine. They are strong but lose their potency over time. I am taking a half most doses. I cut down from 3 to 1 a day before my Semi accident last month and it was very manageable!

I am 62 years old quite fit for my age. Medical professional. Was given Soma 15 years ago for muscle spasm. Dr ordered 4 a day but I only needed 1-2 and took for several years. When I quit taking them I had not heard any of the negative press or addiction news so just quit. I had no side effect and did not notice anything out of the ordinary.
With a unique HATHA yoga move done incorrectly I pinched a cervical nerve quite badly and was placed back on them after a terrible issue and experience with flexaril. It still zones me out and makes me feel like I will die for 16 hours. Soma gives me a kind of 'weird' feeling sometimes for about 30 minutes when I first take it. It is not unpleasant it is just 'different' Have been taking for about 6 years 2 x day then was rear ended in September of last year and then upped to 4 x day. Now the 'HORRIBLE SOMA SCARE' with the government control of MD's and making medical decisions. I am now dying of pain. Was given a new medication recently that is supposed to be similar to Soma ( skelaxin ) Not as effective but the kicker is instead of 30.00 a month it is 300.00 a month and gives me headaches (which I almost never get). I am beside myself with pain and have a good job that I love. I don't want to quit and OT's are in high demand but I may have to take early social security (one taking out instead of paying in). I sometimes wonder about the 'scares' and their timing). Drug companies' profits on old drugs are low but newer drugs are high. I sometimes wonder if they help fan the flames in hopes of increasing demand for some new high priced drug. I was actually told this by a neurologist that I used to work closely with.
Anyway. Good luck finding something that not only works but that allows you to eat as well...............

You shouldn't have a terrible time finding Soma. I have had doctors say that they don't use Soma, mostly younger Doctors. But they are all hip to the addictive properties with Soma. I like Soma and have 2 Doctors who have no problem writing for it, although I only use one. You can bounce into a wall and laugh with Soma. What's wrong with that? Like Quaaludes without the quaa or the lude!
