Alveolopathy

Updated

I just went to my dentist the other day as I was feeling like I had a wisdom tooth that was coming back in I was having the feeling of teething, my head hurt really bad and my ear was like I had a earache and my throat hurts me so bad I can barely swallow. My dentist told me I have to see an ortho surgeon because I have alveolopasty which I have never heard of...I know I feel so bad with it. I went to the surgeon the dentist scheduled me with he wants $1,000.00 before he will even put me to sleep and help me...does anyone know what it would be like if I had to live with this?? Will this get worse, will this grow? I know very little about it and any help I would truly appreciate. I know I have also been getting this really bad taste in my mouth maybe that is from it also. I am on meds for this taking metronidazole 500mg and oxycod and amoxicillin 500mg....I can't live on this medication. Does anyone know what I should do? please help

Hello, Suzie! How are you?

What this means is that you have some sharp bony protrusions along your mandibular ridge, if you had wisdom teeth removed, then that may have caused it. Alveoloplasty is actually the name of the procedure that's used to correct the problem. It is most commonly done to prepare the mouth for dentures or implants, but the need for it may also arise in other situations.

As to whether or not it will get worse, yes it is possible, but there's no way to say for sure.

You may want to call the dentist and ask more questions, regarding the severity and progression.

Do you have dental coverage that may help with the cost?

Hello Verwon,
I appreciate your information and it isn't from my wisdom tooth it is actually from another tooth in the back I had removed 2 and half years ago on the bottom next to my wisdom tooth that had been removed the pain has been so agonizing that I thought it was a wisdom tooth coming back in...as it hurts so bad...to swallow you almost cry. Now today the pain has let up somewhat could be the medications or because it is not swelled up today but I am still looking to get it removed as my neighbor has informed me also they do grow and can grow around nerves and other teeth..right now mine is causing me pain with my tongue and the surgeon informed me because the bone is down around that area where the tongue is...that is why they want to put me to sleep and remove it. And you are correct I don't have dentures and don't need it removed because of that it is because it is hurting me and has a bone coming out of where the tooth had been 2 and half years ago. It has just now started to come back in ..the surgeon told me anyone of us can get this and have the same problem. But I had never heard of this before and putting it out there for people to be aware of this.....and I want to thank you very much for your input...much appreciated. I appreciate all information about this as I know very little I have to keep calling the surgeon and my older lady neighbor friend.
