Altraday Dosage And If Can Be Taken On Long Term Basis

Updated

I suffer from pain in both knees. I also suffer from pain in my left ankle region which my doctor tells me is due to "inflammation". He has prescribed me Altraday - 1 tablet every night at bed time for 5 nights and says it should not be taken too often. I do not get a clear answer from him on how often is "too often".

I have experimented on my own and found that 1 tablet a day gives me good relief from pain for the first 24 hours and somewhat reduced relief for the next 24 hours. On this basis, if I continue to take one tablet of Altrday every alternate day on long term basis, I hope to lead a much better life. Is it OK, or do you have any suggestions?

Hello, Ritinkar! How are you?

Altraday contains the active ingredient Diclofenac. The FDA classifies this as a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory.

The reason your doctor cautioned you not to take it too often is due to the fact that long-term use of high dosages could cause liver damage, liver failure and/or stomach ulceration.

Most people take it anywhere from 2 to 4 times a day, so you are taking much less often than the average.

Other side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache and increased risk of bleeding.

Is there anything else I can help with?
