I was taking alendronate 70MG 3 month ago, but this week I got a lot of side effects such as: diarrhea, abdominal & stomach pain, heartburn, general feeling of discomfort or illness, full or bloated feeling. I just ordered 3 more months but with those severe side effects, I'm planning to quit. ## Hello, Steve! How are you? Those can be normal side effects of this medication, as listed by the FDA. You may also experience headache, dizziness and joint/muscle aches. Have you consulted your doctor? There are other medications that you can try to see if they don't cause you as many problems. ## I was on Alendronate for 20 years and have been suffering from side effects for 3 years off it.

Does anyone know how long it takes? ## Side effects from alendronate? Mine is muscle atrophy. ## Hello, Ann! I am very sorry about what you experienced. These medications really do a number on some people that take them. Has your doctor ruled out any other possible cause for the muscle pain? While it can be a side effect of this medication, if you stopped it 7 months ago, there should be some improvement by now. I have been taking Alendronate 70 mg once a week for two years, but the last month I have experienced increasingly more severe dizziness and subsequent nausea within 24 hours of dosage. Is this 24 hour delayed reaction caused by Alendronate? ## Those can be normal side effects of Alendronate, according to FDA reports. Other side effects may include headache, bloating, constipation, and taste changes. Ref: Alendronate Information Our bodies do change with time, so it is always possible to suddenly start experiencing side effects that you didn't experience in the past. However, there is also a chance that these symptoms are entirely unrelated. Are you on any other medications? Has anything changed in your diet, or lifestyle recently? If its severe, you should consult your doctor for y...

Hello, been on Alendronate 70mg 4 weeks. Stopped taking it two weeks ago. Chiro told me his father fractured vertebrae. All I have read is negative feedback about this drug. Is there any positive feedback on this website about it? Has anyone taken this with good results? ## Hi, Ev! How are you? The thing you have to remember when reading experiences, and reviews online is that most people don't go looking online for a site like this, unless they've had a bad experience. There are many that take a medication without problems, but they don't look for a site like this to find more information, or see if other's have had similar experiences. That said, you are correct in that most of them regarding Fosamax are negative, many people experience problematic side effects, and ha...

I was diagnosed with osteoporosis in 2018. My doctor recently presented me with information on medications for this condition and I find the possible side effects frightening. One is taken every six months, what if I have a bad reaction to that. It seems to be those meds or broken bones - I'm between the devil and the deep blue sea! Plus, I seem to be more sensitive to medications as I age. Can anyone discuss their experiences with osteoporosis medications? ## My mother-in-law, who is 73, tried one a few months ago, it made her miserable very quickly, and she stopped after 2 weekly doses. She has now refused to take anymore. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, headache, diarrhea, and joint/muscle aches. The one she tried was Alendronate.
