Adderall Xr 20mg. Blue Capsule (Page 3)

Updated

Pharmacy recently switched me to new generic brand (blue capsule) of adderall XR. I have never seen this brand and I don't feel like it is effective. I lack concentration and focus, recurring symptoms of ADHD. Anyone else experience this?

Yes. I had a terrible experience with the generic version from Actavis. It was a blue capsule. It was so bad, I went into severe depression and missed weeks of work. I thought I was going crazy. I told my psychiatrist and he gave me a rx for the brand name only. I threw away those terrible Actavis capsules. I will never take those again.

I have been taking 30mg Adderall ER for six years, I functioned well, no speed or slow down, in fact they worked so well I no longer noticed them. then a new doc. wants to change everything I told him it took me almost ten years to develop a treatment regime that worked for me. I am sixty seven, not trying to make myself feel high, just relieve my hdd and narcolepsy, my bi polar has stopped cycling and stays on the depressed side. I started a generic two days ago, made by actavis pharma, its 30mg aamphetamine salts ER, saying its a substitute for Adderall.

I took the pill the same way every morning at 9PM, I waited and waited nothing happened, I took another pill at 1200pm after an hour nothing happened. This morning I took a pill at 9am nothing happened I took two 30 mg pills at 1130 am again nothing happened. F*** this I am brining the remainder of the pills back to cvs and ask for a different brand, from my experience actavis is either incompetent
greedy or both.

I just got switched to time release by my Doctor. Last month I got the orange time release, I didn't like it compared to the regular 20mg. When I realized that my prescriptions for this year were dated for 2013, I had to go back to the doctor to get them changed to 2014. I took that opportunity to ask if I could switch back. He said no, I want you to stay on the time release. I finally got my script for January, and I get these blue things. Now I'm really pissed, they are horrible. Going back to see Dr., if he doesn't help me, I'm switching doctors. I don't understand why he won't help me make it right. If you get the blue 20mg capsule, I would immediately refuse them

I agree, it just doesn't help me either.I am going to call druggist and tell him too let me know if he can't get hold of previous ones I'll go to another druggist. My bottle has same info & mfg on bottle, yet old ones were yellow, these are blue.

I'm fascinated to read this thread, because my 17yrold son just described the exact opposite experience to what so many of you have had. He has been taking the blue Adderall XR 20 mg pills for about a year and having the most academically successful year of his life. Since we get his meds via mail order, we sometimes have to wait for them to arrive, and today he took the same dosage but of my prescription, which has continued to be filled with the orange pills. He told me he was totally unfocused and might as well not have taken anything. His reading comprehension was terrible and he couldn't function at all mentally. I wonder why this would be true?

I have taken the Teva brand Adderall 30mg XR for about 6 years. My pharmacy ran out, so I had to go to another pharmacy to get it. This pharmacies pills looked different but I didn't think anything of it. I had been taking them for about 2 weeks, and was feeling very tired, exhausted really, irritable, headache and depressed. I attributed this to maybe a virus or something. Then I had to take a UA for a new job. The drug panel center came back negative for any and all amphetamines. You all know that I should have failed that diagnosis. That triggered me to do some Internet searching on the Actavis brand of addy. I got my dr to write me an rx for the Teva brand. He said there is a big difference in generics. I just took my Teva brand addy about an hour ago and it's like everything is coming into focus again. That stuff is garbage to me.

Yes. I think the generic blue is less effective than the orange and white one.

I agree with with you. I've been taking the 20 mg blue pill (Actavis?) from CVS for the last 9 months. They were out and went to Rite-Aid and got the Teva brand (brownish pills). I've been taking these new pills for nearly 2 weeks and it's like I'm not taking anything at all. I'm unfocused and tired in the afternoons, symptoms that never occurred when taking the CVS blue pills.

After three weeks on the Actavis (blue capsule) I called my pharmacist to complain. This is evidently a cheaper generic and all this store is carrying now. I had to call around to different less convenient pharmacies to find one that still carries one of the other generics-Teva, Global, etc. as Actavis did not help me at all. A frustrating month and waste of money.

I absolutely hate this Actavis generic! I was on Global for the first month every on Adderall XR. I have been on other medications without success, like Straterra. The first month I though finally after years of anti-depressants, non-stimulant medications for both depression and ADHD, that I found the cure! I was so much happier and wasn't spending time on these message boards, no offense, but true, your meds probably aren't working if your creeping around on these obsessively like I have been for the past 2 weeks. I tried to stick it out, but called my Doctor and will be picking up a replacement script tomorrow for brand only. Actavis Brand has caused terrible reactions, lethargy, crying, stomach issues, and it causes my taste buds to be off. I feel like I smell like a crayon-I know weird, but true. After looking up the ingredients of fillers it has twice as many as the others and is definately not considered the Authorized generic on the FDA site like Shire is. Global claims to be an authorized generic, and I believe it, I would have been fine to remain on that generic. Its pretty bad that within 2 months filling at CVS its perfectly ok for them to change manufacturers, charge my insurance for Brand name-both months, which cost me $70.00. They should have automatically replaced it since the overcharged me as if it were brand. But, since its a scheduled drug I understand they need a script. I am so relieved I can start to get that crap out of my system. I didn't even take the dose prescribed which the first month was 20 mg a day, second month 20 mg twice a day, because it reacted so strange with me. I now see others are having the same issues. It causes cigarettes, and even a glass of wine to taste horrible. I bet this will be the next one they find with something wrong with it. Sad that they can monkey around with our lives this way. Sucks! But I feel blessed and lucky that my doctors came through. I realize it is because of years of a trusting relationship and respect for them that I am always compliant and have tried everything under the sun to feel better before trying stimulants. This works, when you actually get the medication you are supposed to get. I do feel sorry for those that start on Actavis and actually am glad I knew right away it was the difference in the manufacturer causing my symptoms. Nice to know that even though they didn't ask, I have more than the amount left in my bottle should someone want to analyze them one day!

I agree completely!! They are junk pills and I wonder if they are dangerous. Crazy they can even market these as the same medication since they obviously aren't performing the same. Gotta love the FDA -! They could care less to really check the welfare of the public and as seen on the Wellbutrin episode and Ranxbury, they don't care and couldn't protect us timely! Where is the accountability for them to do their job

Glad to know I'm not the only one experiencing this. This new blue pill is terrible and it's not helping me one bit. Hopefully enough people will complain and they'll do something about it. I might as well just not take anything at all.

Yes! CVS switched me over and it waS terrible. I felt lethargic and kind of trippy. Did not help my add at all. They tried to give it to me again this month and I refused it at the counter (told them last 2 months to stop giving me that junk and they almost got me again but I checked before I signed) anyway. It sucks. Has some numbers and weird symbol on it right? It's not all in your head trust me. There is something wrong with that generic. I switched to walgreens. Sooo much better now:)

I was just changed to these blue caps, they do not work at all, I agree with all of you.
I see my Doctor next week and I am hoping he gives me something different. What are they doing to us? Are they trying to figure out who really needs adderall? They are hurting all of us who truly need this medication to function in this all ready messed up world. WE WANT OUR LIFE'S BACK!!!
GIVE US OUR REAL MEDICATION.
I CANT EVEN GET OUT OF BED, I FEEL LOOPY AND JUST WRITING THIS SMALL POST TOOK ME FOREVER!! I FEEL AS THEY TOOK OUR LIFE AWAY, WE DIDNT ASK TO HAVE ADHD, NOR ARE WE HAPPY WE NEED THIS MEDICATION TO FUNCTION. BUT WE DO, I HOPE YOU AGREE THE BLUE CAPSULE DOES NOT WORK AT ALL. MAN THAT FELT GOOD TO VENT!!

Yes! Stay away from this sh*t..seriously. Go to Walgreens or some pharmacy that stocks Barr generic or have your doc prescribe brand name only. Actavis is the worst medicine I have have ever taken..I truly get angry thinking about the months of my life I took this sh*t and didn't know what was wrong with me. Good luck and refuse a

These Actavis Elizabeth pills are poisonous, if you've taken adderall before even a good generic you know it eases symptoms helps functioning. Kroger filled with generic actavis Elizabeth,These are made with inactives not suitable for human beings esp medicine, start telling your doc, even make written complaint to fda, include lot# everything. Feeling migraines w/auras, inability to visually focus/concentrate, nausea when it wears off. If an insider knows anything about this, they need to speak up, this will be up there with the tuskeegee syphilis experiment, or eugenics. Humans are not deserving of being tricked into getting medication that doesn't work or has chemically made ingredients or fillers that damage DNA or the human spirit

Please everyone who reads this disregard the previous comparison to the Tuskeegee Experiments. This individual is obviously upset over the switch in their generics and, for whatever reason, chose to make a laughable comparison to one of the most tragic incidents in the history of this country. To this poster, please get over yourself, you were not deceived and you are well within your rights as a patient to refuse generic substitution of your medications (even a specific generic). Pharmacies will not carry every generic available for a medication, but once you find one you like you can see if they will continue to order it for you or simply ask around at other pharmacies in your area. This is something that independently owned, "mom and pop" pharmacies will often be willing to help you with the most as they usually rely on several wholesalers whereas the chain pharmacies purchase enormous bulk orders from specific manufacturers. The practice of immediately substituting generics is common for one simple reason: cost. If there is this much backlash over substitution of cheap generics, can you imagine how many people would raise hell over seeing the price of the Brand name version of their medication be 10-100x of what they are used to paying for the generic at their old pharmacy?

Actavis made the first "true" generic for Adderall XR. Before them, all other versions of Adderall XR were the same formulation produced by Shire. Even if you received from a different manufacturer this was still the case, these are known as "authorized generics" which is what many Brand name manufacturers will do when their patent is about to expire. To prevent immediate competition from another company they will often cut deals with some of the first that might be interested in producing a generic formulation. The original Brand name company will provide the same medication they have been producing to this generic manufacturer, often times it will even be the Brand name formulation with little or no change (see Greenstone generic Effexor XR and certain generics for Macrobid). This is a win-win because the generic company gets the closest version available to the real thing and the Brand maker is able to retain exclusivity on the market.

Now, the differences people are reporting are likely due to the fact that Actavis had to make their "best guess" in designing their generic. Generic medications are allowed a +/- 20% variability from the Brand medication in the blood concentrations they are able to achieve. Thus, there may inherently be an 80-120% range that people are experiencing with the generic. Their task is complicated by the fact that not only did they have to get the active/inactive ingredients to a similar level, but had to make their version of the time release mechanism as well. With medications that are psychoactive (have their effect on the brain), is usually where the greatest difference between Brand and Generic is seen. This has to do with the fact that it is difficult to get medications into the brain to begin with any small changes can have enormous effects in the experience.

Disregard the previous post, listen to your instincts, body, and mind on whether the meds work for you, don't just automatically trust the fda or big pharma, if you think your meds aren't working, esp if you know you've taken something else that DID work in the past. The tuskeegee experiments should not be forgotten, but remembered to never let gov't agencies oversee what they did, again. No the comparison is not the same but we are talking a medical injustice-some patients can't afford what does work, because of economic/low income conditions, or agencies deciding for them what's best. Just listen to all the posts that patients with a serious disorder are complaining about, with actavis, those people know the difference, they know something's wrong, they know they are not getting proper treatment! they have to take what they can afford, if a patient says, there's something not right here, it's not working, or it's making me sick, then they shouldn't have to suffer with a disorder that has the potential to ruin their lives, even cause suicide-because an agency says so. Children have no control over this either if their parents can't afford, they may never know there's something better that can really help, instead they will take what makes them sick. Just because big pharma is doing the bare minimum, with generics, doesn't mean it's going to work 100% of the time ...the patient knows, all you have to do is listen.
