I took accutane almost 14 years ago as a teenager. I am now a 32 year old woman who has just been diagnosed with infertility that they believe is linked to autoimmune issues. I truly believe that accutane is the cause of this; from the research that I have done it seems that accutane has been linked to other thyroid-related diseases, but that they have not yet been able to prove a link between accutane and infertility. There are, however, actually more people like me out there than I originally thought. Being diagnosed with ovarian dysfunction has been a horrific, horrific blow. And while there was plenty of information about accutane and birth defects, no one ever mentioned a possibility of future infertility. I was a teenager! This is a tragedy and I believe something should be done about it. If you too have been affected diagnosed with infertility and have taken accutane, please email me. There are plenty of suits against accutance. If there are enough of us, we can come together to do the medical research and get the help we now need.

I also took Accutane as a teenager for about two years. I have since been diagnosed with Primary Ovarian Insufficiency (basically, I have very few follicles). They ran the autoimmune tests and found no problems on that end, so they basically have no idea of the cause. I, too, would be very interested if someone ran some tests/gathered some information on this. (I am now pregnant, but we had to use an egg donor - at great expense.)

My girlfriend also took Accutane as a teen and was diagnosed with autoimmune type infertility. She is 31 and now due in July with her first baby. IVF worked on the first try.....good luck to you!

I took Accutane when I was 22 for 3 months. I am now 38 and have been trying to actively conceive a baby since I was 33. I have gone through 2 IUI's, 8 ICSI treatments. I was diagnosed with Endometriosis in 2009, and that is a contributing factor, but I always wondered if Accutane has played a role in my infertility as no one else in my family has infertilty issues.

I went on roaccutane 3 years ago when I was 21 and my acne returned so I went to my gynecologist to have my hormone levels tested and everything was normal except now I have a low egg count and he is worried I may not be able to have children. He said he can't prove it but it could have been caused by roaccutane. Now hearing that it makes men infertile too makes me worried as my fiance also went on roaccutane in his teens. This is a massive shock!

How is it that we all took accutane and now all of us women and men have fertility issues? I asked my Re and he basically would not comment on it. I feel like if there is enough of us we should come together and try to get some acknowledgement or money. Bring that all of us have spent thousands upon thousands ds of dollars trying to get pregnant.

I am so glad I found this thread. I am 19 and plan on having kids with my girlfriend. She wanted to use accutane and I told her about the side effects and showed her this and now she won't touch it. Thank you for putting this thread up to help raise awareness! I'm very sorry to all of you who are unable to have children. Good luck in all future endeavors in your lives!

I was on accutane for 6 months when I was 18 and at 27 tried for three years to get pregnant. I was diagnosed with PCOS at 30 and had to go through clomid trials in order to get pregnant. On the brighter side, I am now 35 weeks pregnant and all has been well. However, I never thought to connect the accutane to the troubles I was having. Wow...I was never told infertility was a possible side effect.

Well some positive news for any guys freaking out... My fiance who was on roaccutane for 1.5 years at age 19, he is now 25. He had a test last week and his sperm count is better than average so it hasn't affected him. My gyno can't relate my low egg count to roaccutane but I think I can still have kids, the amount is just lower than normal. It would be interesting to see if people who were tested fertile before roaccutane and then became infertile after. It seems most cases could have been infertile before it and infertility is very common now without taking any prescription medication... but still after knowing it may be a possibility I would never put that in my body and risk it again!

I took Accutane when I was 19, so it would have been 20 years ago now. In reading these posts, I am feeling more and more ill, as so many of the stories describe my circumstance. I suffered 3 miscarriages before I finally gave birth to my amazing daughter. However, in trying for a second child and after consulting with fertility specialists, I have been diagnosed with POF. My menstrual cycle has stopped and I'm not even 40 years old. The back and neck aches describe my situation as well. I am horrified to think that doctors were handing out those pills like candy, without considering the detrimental effects it would have long-term on potential moms and dads. So sad and so irresponsible...

Jules, I took Accutane for about 8 months when I was 19. I didn't start having any back problems until I was 22 or 23. I had no idea to think of Accutane as the culprit. Everything hurts...my neck, mid and low back, buttocks, and legs. I went to the ER last Friday and that's when they discovered the cysts. It's such a painful and draining experience when dealing with the severe pain. Sometimes I can't even walk because of the pressure and pain. It's been driving me crazy for about 4-5 years now. When I was having these same symptoms they just looked at the gallbladder and told me I had stones that needed to be taken out. I felt just ok for awhile until the severe pain, muscle spasms, and nausea came back. I've been depressed since finding all this out. People keep telling me not to worry, but it's hard not to worry when you hear of people with the same symptoms!

I took Roaccutane for several months in my early 20s to improve me skin while I was a model. I was on contraception and when I ceased this at 28 I noticed things were different with my monthly cycle. Years later I have tried to become pregnant at age 36 and now told I am infertile due to low ovarian reserve and autoimmune issues.

i think the case (as for a lot of us) is you had pcos (which causes fertility problems) and it was this pcos that caused the acne that required you to take accutane. the pcos was already there but the first symptom to manifest itself was the acne

hello dear; I am Sarah..I have acne skin beforemy wedding I was under laser treatment and that made my skin much much better my doctor never prescribed niether i wanted to take roaccutane now I am moving to US and I thought I should get Roaccutane because I am again getting acne a bit and I want to cure it before I go to US since the treatment is expensive there,..I am so confused I do not have a child but I will definitely plan after 8 months ..I am scared if it is related to infertility...what do you think...

It's definitely not worth the risk. There is so much more out there to help your skin. Try Spironolactone and a pill like yasmin or just on its own. It takes a few months to work but with no side effects! I've been on roaccutane and it cleared it up but the initial break out was horrific. 9 months later the acne came back even worse because roaccutane doesn't get rid of hormonal acne. It will close up your sebacious glands but after a while they will open back up. Sprionoldactone blocks the adrenal glands which block testosterone (what causes acne) and works just as well as roaccuatane. I have been on it over 3 months now and my skin is nice and clear. You have to be patient but it will work.

I also took accutane when I was 22 for 6 months or so. Then at 28 my husband and I tried to get pregnant on our own and couldn't. We were diagnosed with unexplained infertility. First try with IUI and clomid and we were pregnant with twins. I think that accutane ruined my mucus making it so the sperm couldn't swim to the right spot.

Hi my name is andria, i was prescribed accutane in 1998/1999, it was a nightmare for me and still is. While i was on accutane i had became pregnant, i didnt know i was pregnant until about my 10-11week. I was on birthcontrol at the time so being pregnant was a huge surprise to me.i immediatley stopped taking the accutane and another contacted my dermatoligist office, i remember clear as day speaking with the nurse practioner to inform her on my pregnancy, she commanded me to get the pregnacy terminated that i am in high risk for birth defects. Come to find out i was never informed that accutane does weaken birthcontrol pills, nor was i given regular pregnancy or blood testby the nurse practioner, that is required. Nor was i informed of the high risks! After seeking help from other doctors, gyno and gentetic consuling my nightmare of acctuane became a horrible reality, i was informed by these other doctors if i continued my pregnancy i am not only risking my lifebut the baby. The odds of the baby being disform were high, the baby also had a high risk of being brain dead,metally challenge, still born. The baby also had a 50/50 percent chance of making it past 2 years old. At that point i had to make the most heartbreaking decision that haunts me still after all these years. I was force to terminate my pregnancy, i was forced to go to a clinic where i was harrassed by anti abortionist.my health insurance would not allow me to have a D/C done in a hospital.never in my life would i ever think i would ever terminate a pregnancy. I still cry after all these years. I became depress after, i became bitter and i hated myself for not taking the risk with my pregnacy. There were days where i begged for my baby. That was my only chance of becoming a mother. After taking accutane , i developed endometrousis, i have had 3-4 laproscopys since 2000/2001, my last one was in 2010. I also have IBS, which also developed after acctutane. I suffer extreme pains in my abdominals and my left side. I also had precancerous pulps formed in
My colon that was found in 2010. I believe these medical issues are linked to the accutane. Accutane has made my life a nightmare.january 4 2012 my child would of been 12. Accutane has robbed me of being a mother.

Hi i used roaccutane in my early twenties and tried for over 5 years to get pregnant in my thirties. I was eventually diagnosed with polycycstic ovaries after years of unexplained infertility and a course of clomid which didn't work. I eventually conceived using ivf and have a gorgeous little girl! I would never have imagined an acne treatment would cause the problems i went through and most certainly Will not be letting my daughter use it!
