Accutane And Infertility (Page 30)

Updated

I took accutane almost 14 years ago as a teenager. I am now a 32 year old woman who has just been diagnosed with infertility that they believe is linked to autoimmune issues. I truly believe that accutane is the cause of this; from the research that I have done it seems that accutane has been linked to other thyroid-related diseases, but that they have not yet been able to prove a link between accutane and infertility. There are, however, actually more people like me out there than I originally thought. Being diagnosed with ovarian dysfunction has been a horrific, horrific blow. And while there was plenty of information about accutane and birth defects, no one ever mentioned a possibility of future infertility. I was a teenager! This is a tragedy and I believe something should be done about it. If you too have been affected diagnosed with infertility and have taken accutane, please email me. There are plenty of suits against accutance. If there are enough of us, we can come together to do the medical research and get the help we now need.

I took Accutane around 1992 and then tried for three years for my son. I had to get many tests done and have been dx w unexplained infertility. There is nothing wrong with my husband's sperm, so it was definitely me. I Ann now 40 (my son is almost 2) and wanted to try again, but now I'm having a miscarriage due to a blighted ovum. :( This was through the fertility dr again. It never occurred to me that Accutane might be to blame and I'm so overwhelmed by all these posts! This is infuriating!! Never in a million years would I have taken this drug if I'd known. My mom definitely wouldn't have let me take it either. Can we sue??

How did you concieve? And I think we should sue considering how many people this has affected. We are all at an age now that we are wondering "why?" And I think we now know the answer.

I recently took Roaccutane treatment for acne (sep to dec 2016) at the age of 37. Now i wanted to check on my fertility, end of Dec 2016 had blood tests and AMH levels almost at alarming 0, with menstruation all over the place and unpredictable, which never happened before. There was nothing about these side effects available nor the doctor mentioned possible effects, when discussing different treatment options for acne.

That isn't true! I am 1 half of a pair of identical twins .. Identical .. That's 98% at least, the same! We both had acne, and I'm fact mine was the mildest, but I was the one or bothered the most! I took roaccutane 2 or 3 times .. early teens and early 20s! I have stage 4 endometriosis and infertile. I had one pregnancy at 17 that ended in late miscarriage and although not been on contraception for over a decade, I have never fallen pregnant! My twin however has not only fallen pregnant looking at men, but has carried full term and has children! If acne caused or was the symptom of infertility then how did my twin have children!? My mother had acne, had 6 kids! I'm 1 of 5 girls, the only one infertile and the only one that has taken roaccutane!

Hi everyone!

I've been coming back to this page every once in a while and now I really feel the need to share my story. I hope it can help someone else as well!!

I took accutane when I was 18 and after that my period got very irregular and then eventually just stopped. I haven't tried getting pregnant but I am pretty sure it wouldn't have succeeded if I would have tried. I am now 27 years old.

I developed all kinds of health issues during the following years after accutane (thyroid and adrenal issues, insomnia, mood swings, frequent infections etc.) and I visited several doctors and of course they couldn't find anything wrong with me.

Three years ago I did a hair mineral analysis and started following a program called Nutritional balancing. The hair analysis showed a lot of imbalances in my body, especially a copper imbalance, which is linked to hormonal imbalances and can also be the cause of infertility.

Now after a couple of years on the program my period is FINALLY normalizing for the first time since I took accutane!! Also my other health issues are disappearing. I do re-evaluations every 3-4 months and they show improvement every time. I believe accutane causes imbalances in the body that need to be fixed on a nutritional level. If you think of it, accutane itself is a toxic form of vitamin A and it makes sense it would mess with other nutrients in the body since everything is connected.

If anyone has any questions please don't hesitate to ask! :)

Here is a good introduction video on how to get started on a Nutritional balancing program:

I conceived through a fertility doctor: medications and intrauterine insemination. Thousands of dollars and lots of heartache. :(

I spent 16.5k and had a testicular biopsy, just to wake up and find out they found nothing and had to use the donor sperm.. I love my son, but my heart still broke that day.

I took roaccutane when I was 15 and then placed on the contraceptive pill afterward as a management plan.
Prior to this I experienced one natural menstrual cycle at 14.
At 20 I was diagnosed with ovarian cysts and advised to remain on my pill to control my symptoms.
I stopped taking the pill at 21 after realising the damaging effects of synthetic hormones.
I'm now 23 and while my ovarian cysts have all but disappeared on my last ultrasound in Dec 16 (I believe a result of diet changes over the last 6 months - limiting dairy, processed foods, grains and sugars and consuming more wholesome and raw foods), I am yet to menstruate. 24 months since I stopped taking my pill and no period. 1 natural cycle my entire life, which occurred BEFORE I was prescribed toxic drugs.
I believe the underlying cause for my amonorhea was taking roaccutane before my adolescent body ever got the chance to regulate itself properly and then pumping it full of synthetic hormones for the next 6 years.
Nobody in my family has ever been diagnosed with PCOS or ovarian cysts. I don't believe I am predisposed genetically and I don't believe my ovarian cysts ever existed before I started my treatment.
And my diet and lifestyle have never meant they might be considered a possible cause for my whacky hormones.
I don't know when I can expect my next period, if it will ever come at all. But I have no doubt this toxic drug is to blame for what's going on with my body's reproductive functions, or lack there or.
8 years on and I still suffer from acne all over my chin, cheeks and jawline - a result of my body's now state of constant hormonal chaos, that I have slowly learnt to live with the past few years.
While I've never planned to start a family, I didn't use contraception with my then boyfriend for almost 2 years after stopping the pill and never fell pregnant. I'm at a point now where I don't even plan to have children down the track, because I don't think it will even be possible, naturally.
Roaccutane' effects are damaging, I wish I never took it and I'm still left with blemished skin on a daily basis.

I'd love to! I don't feel my dermatologist managed my condition at all by prescribing me roaccutane and then the contraceptive pill. He left me on Yasmin with no recommendation of switching pills, due to Yasmin's statistically high risks of adverse effects, if taken for too long. He never queried my personal history nor considered the implications of placing a teenage girl on the pill, whose body was far from total development and proper functioning you'd expect to see in an adult.
Conventional doctors and specialists have no idea about proper health or nutrition, largely due to receiving little or no education on these throughout their degrees. They are taught to treat symptoms with toxic drugs instead of healing the body and systems as a whole, and we can only thank the big pharmaceuticals and their control over the healthcare industry for that!

I took accutane in 1999 for 7-8 months I was 23. In 2006 I suffered 3 miscarriages in the Span of a year and recently suffered another last may. peoole have asked me before about this possible correlation and recently my mother asked me if it was the possible cause of my miscarriages. I am not sure but I am pretty sure it's affected my body in some way shape or form permanently. Hopefully more research is done on this topic.

I took Roaccutane when I was 15/16 years old for no more than 6 months in conjunction with a birth control pill to clear my pimples, after that time I stopped taking all medications. 4/5 years later my pimples returned and pretty much were there until I was 30 years old. The only times my skin was clear was when I was on the pill, which was only for 2 years from the age 18 to 25 (I was on and off it). Between age 20 to 28 I suffered thrush constantly, keeping in mind I wasn't taking any medications. When I was 26 I had an ovarian cyst, and had it removed, to date I haven't had any since. At age 32 my periods became irregular 3 or 5 periods a year, prior to that I had one every 30 days approx. At age 35 my periods stopped. Now aged 40 I have been confirmed Post Menopausal.

The good news is that I haven't had thrush in 6 years, and prior to that only had thrush odd times like prior to my periods. (keeping in mind I had to follow strict diets of no sugar, however I now have learnt that an animal product free diet, high in fruit and vegetables would have been more effective, which I now follow)
Menopause was easy, I only got hot flushes the odd times, they have now passed. I don't have to worry about getting pregnant, keeping in mind I haven't had children and nor did I want them. So I may have been infertile all a long, but I can't confirm. Life is easier without periods, for holiday, intimacy, etc. Would I recommend this drug? The answer is NO! But I can't say I miss my periods and the worries of unplanned pregnancies. I don't know what is installed for me for the next few decades? But what is clear is that there are side effects to this drug that aren't obvious until many years later. If you have taken this drug and want children I would highly recommend having them before you turn 30.

Hi there. Were you on birth control during your accutane course? Or no and your period still disappeared? And who are you seeing to get your period back?

hi there. I am in the exact same situation and am beyond frustrated of the situations I have had to go through to find out the side effects of accutane. I had no idea of infertility or other side effects that are now becoming more common as more people speak up. most likely because accutane did not disclose the alarming side effects, then the dermatologists did not know either. when you are given the accutane, you are forced to sign a disclosure agreeing to knowing this pill is toxic. striking the dermatologist wouldn't help any, nor would it do anything. at the time of all of our visits, they were just there to help us

Hi I took acutane when I was around 15 years old I am now 31 and came to find out a couple years ago that I was infertile and I've never took any other type of meds. Nor any other reason I shouldnt be able to have kids it does not run in family so I'm thinking it has to be from the acutane ..

There's a good chance of that Michael. I'm sorry to hear that though. I took it when I was even too. Found out later in that I don't make sperm. I blame the accutane. We should all file a legal suit.

I took Roaccutane and then struggled to become pregnant. Having had a pregnancy prior I know everything was working fine and healthy. But I had 3 rounds of IVF in the end before a last attempt resulted in a pregnancy that went full term with lots of complications but ending in a healthy son.
