I took accutane almost 14 years ago as a teenager. I am now a 32 year old woman who has just been diagnosed with infertility that they believe is linked to autoimmune issues. I truly believe that accutane is the cause of this; from the research that I have done it seems that accutane has been linked to other thyroid-related diseases, but that they have not yet been able to prove a link between accutane and infertility. There are, however, actually more people like me out there than I originally thought. Being diagnosed with ovarian dysfunction has been a horrific, horrific blow. And while there was plenty of information about accutane and birth defects, no one ever mentioned a possibility of future infertility. I was a teenager! This is a tragedy and I believe something should be done about it. If you too have been affected diagnosed with infertility and have taken accutane, please email me. There are plenty of suits against accutance. If there are enough of us, we can come together to do the medical research and get the help we now need.

Exactly. Accutane LOWERS elevated AMH. Perhaps all of these women with infertility problems would have had WORSE problems without Accutane.

Is there any way to identify perhaps millions of women who had the potential infertility problems that never happened because they took Accutane?

Normal AMH levels are between 1.5 and 4.0. Anything outside that range is not ideal. Mine is 0.06 which is extremely low. I didn't read the whole study yet but I will.

This study is 10 rats in each group. The dose is 15 to 30 times higher than the human dose. That isotretinoin is toxic to the ovaries in mega doses is not the least bit surprising. At this dose the rats are lucky to survive the trial. (actually, they didn't)

Rats are not a good proxy for humans. For example rats develop breast tumors from spironolactone. 42 million woman years in Denmark reveal no such effect in humans.

I took Accutane for 4 months about 12 years ago. I seem to have a different problem - my eggs and my tubes are fine, but I have 50+ pea sized fibroids in my uteran muscle, ovarian cysts and super severe and inoperable endometriosis, and I just had my first abdominal laparopscopic myomectomy at 26 to reduce the side effects of these issues. These things may ultimately cause infertility in the near future, but my problems seem different than many of the posts. Is anyone having similar complications possibly from Accutane? I don't know anyone else who has my trifecta of reproductive problems.

I have taken Accutane and was warned about not getting pregnant on it but nothing about infertility afterwards! My husband and I have been trying for the last few months to get pregnant and I guess I never really thought of that being the reason. Obviously, I'm not sure that's the reason but I guess we'll have to see in the coming months.

I took Acutane when I was 18 for around 6 months. I was diagnosed with endometriosis in my late 20's. It took me almost 7 years to become pregnant with my little girl.

I took accutane in the 1980's and had miscarriages in 92 & 93. I developed endometriosis and had 3 surgeries for that. Had complete hysterectomy st age 37. Never had children.

44 year old male here. Took Accutane for 4 or 5 years in the 80s..have struggled with IBS ever since...also diagnosed with azoospermia (zero sperm) this year... I wonder if IBS and azoospermia are related?

I have been taken accutane for about 7 years (17-24). I'm 32, have only one child who was a little hard to conceive and since then, almost 4 years I haven't been able to conceive. Doctors say unexplained. AMH was low but they didn't seem to care about that.

My brother and I also took Accutane in the 80's and neither of us have been able to have children. I developed endometriosis, had multiple laporoscopies and was basically out of eggs by 37 (now 41). I have always suspected Accutane as the cause.

Hi, I'm 32 years old now and I used Accutane for 6 months about 10 yrs ago. I have been diagnosed with Unexplained infertility in 2009 after a couple miscarriage. Even though we were able to conceived our now 4yr old daughter after a long and disappointing road, we haven't been able to get pregnant what so ever (with or without treatment of some sort) since her birth. I was just reading on a dermatologist website about the new info and warnings about Accutane which made me look into it more and I am now left with the same questions as you "Are they responsible in any way for this?" I am in Canada, so I don't know if the laws are the same but if anything is being done as a group to look into this, I would love to be kept updated. Actually, rats have proven...over the past 30+ years....to be reliable test agents for isotretinoin. The birth defects seen in rats and mice are very comparable to those seen in humans. Furthermore, retinoic acid is known to accummulate heavily in several organs...2 being the brain and the ovaries.

After reading all these posts. Now im SURE it was accutaine that has cause my 30 year old son to become sterile. I took him to a dermatologist so he could get severe acne under control. You have bo idea gow devastated our family is. Its just not Right!!! These drugs were prescibed to children and Now there will be No son for my son last in male lineage all for a acne medication!!! His was like mike absolutely not even 1 sperm. Nothing. They should be held accountable. It will cost my son and daughter in law Thousands of dollars just for her to get artifical insemination each try. They should have to pay for that. Prayers to all that have family that has taken this medication that was for pimples..... grief!!!!!! In JESUS name someone should do something. My heart is broken. ??

I too took accutane at age 20 and at age 22 was diagnosed with POF. No explanation. No children. Told the only way I can have children is egg donation. Truly believe it was due to accurate.

I took accutane at age 24. Also infertile. Had a successful ivf in 2009 only to have a very rare pregnancy complication (molar pregnancy along with healthy pregnancy). That molar pregnancy resulted in premature emergency c-section and our son died. No luck with fertility since even with multiple ivf cycles. I absolutely believe eggs are damaged with use of this medication. No way to prove it since fertility issues often don't present themselves until years and years later. We take it as teens and young adults and don't start families until later.
