Abuse Oxycontin

Updated

Why do so many people want to abuse OxyContin leaving those of us who actually prescribed it for pain on the edge?

I KNOW ITS SO UNFAIR PEOPLE THAT ABUSE OXYCONTIN MAKE IT HARD FOR PEOPLE THAT HONESTLY NEED IT FOR CHRONIC PAIN. I HAVE TAKEN 4 80MG OXYS FOR 10 YEARS AND MY DOC LOST HIS LICENSE & I NEED DOCTOR WILLING 2 TREAT MY PAIN WITH IT IN MONTGOMERY OR BIRMINGHAM AREA.

Sorry to point this out but stefanie, your approach to pain management is largely a reason for this. I am sure you are a chronic pain sufferer but the problem is that now you are looking for a doctor to specifically prescribe this drug to you - you came into this thread and instead of answering Thomas' question you posted how you are looking for a doctor for this drug. Thomas, as you can see, this medication is abused so often because if its addictive properties - often even legitimate patients become physically dependent on it after taking for awhile. It becomes a vicious cycle. And even more than that there are many who simply take it recreationally and abuse it like someone who is addicted to any other illicit drug. I wish I had more of an answer as to what can be done to mitigate this epidemic.

Sorry, but she did not say she was shopping for a doctor who would prescribe this Rx for her. Her doctor lost their licensed so she's got to find another doctor. My new primary will not prescribe narcs (same situation as she-my primary retired so I had to find new primary) so I found a pain management practice whom I am very pleased with our relationship. Before you go jumping down someone's throat, think first.

Re: stefanie (# 1) Expand Referenced Message

I'm in Tennessee and my doctor told me that the DEA is cutting down on the milligrams that can be prescribed of an opioid. Not sure if that's true or not but that's what I was told.
