8 Norco 10 325 To Fentanyl 62.5 Patch

Do I put patch on and continue to take my norco till the fentanyl patch gets in to my system at full strength? I take two nor ps 10-325 every 6 hrs and they wear off at 4-5 hrs so pain comes on strong. I've read that it takes 12 to 24 hours for fentanyl to reach its peak so till it kicks it will I be safe to take reg dose of norco? Do not want to go to sleep and not wake up! Scary

It would be best to be cautious and check with your doctor, before taking the Norco with the patch, since there can be some risk of increased sedation or overdose.

However, in most cases it is prescribe that way, the time released patch is meant to control most of your pain, then a regular release medication is prescribed for breakthrough pain.

The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

But the Fentanyl is very potent and you'll likely feel an effect from it sooner than you expect.

I have used the patch now for almost a month and it does help my pain but I still take at least one 10-325 norco about two or three times a day depending on what I do thru the day. Dr has me changing patch every 48 hrs but it seems to lose the strength on the second day. I've read that these patches should last 72 hrs but I don't believe it would work that way in my case. I would like to not have to take any other pills for pain but I will give it awhile to see if it gets better, I do not feel sedated at all and have no problem doing my daily activities... Just can't overdo it.
