It is Tylenol 3, basically like the over the counter version but a little stronger. It has codine in it, which acts as a sleep aid. Can make you drowsy if you are not used to asleep aid. As with regular Tylenol it can irritate your stomach, especially if you have an ulcer because of the larger dose of acetaminophen. These are stroger than than the Tylenol PM. They also are prescribed to help with someone who may have a persistant cough. Some prescription cough syrup contain Codine. (pronounced co-deen)

The other important thing to know about this prescription is that it is just that a prescription. Since it is a schedule 3 narcotic prescription it is a felony for anyone else to take it except for the person for whom it was prescribed. Also, it is highly addictive and NOT AT ALL like the over the counter version of tylenol. It does not have a stronger amount of tylenol in it. It has 325mg, just like a regular tylenol or acetaminophen pill does and it has 30mg of codeine in it. The narcotic codeine can make you very constipated, cause euphoria, marked drowsiness, dizziness.

Good job nenene, the other poster really left out a few important details, and has a misunderstanding of some others. So great that you are here now to help with this stuff when I can't be online, and with the day I had yesterday, I was in no mood at all to sit here, plus I was hurting really bad.

Anyway, to everyone else, yes, Codeine is much more than a sleep aid. It is a very potent narcotic analgesic (Pain killer.) The reason it induces sleep is because that is a side effect of almost all narcotics because of how they work in the body. So yes, just like nenene said, this is MUCH different than regular Tylenol. The side effects that nenene mentioned are only a few of the common ones you can experience.

This is also different from taking straight Codeine as the APAP tends to enhance its effect, so it works more, so even if you are used to regular Codeine for pain, you can get a wallop from taking this one.

Some people are severely allergic to codeine, by stating it that way, Barb, and by spelling it wrong, you can make someone think it is a different substance, and if they are allergic to it, this could cause disastrous results, or even death.

Okay...I have to ask this question. Where does everyone get the idea that tylenol enhances the effects of the codeine? I have heard this from many many people. This really honestly is not the case; however, ASPIRIN most certainly enhances the effects. It used to be that most doctors wrote for aspirin with codeine but we have learned that aspirin upsets ones stomach more than tylenol. Really, I wouldn't lie about this. Even other pharmacists have believed this until I had to print off some material and have them research it. Not a big deal, but I figured zippysgoddess you were a good person to start with that you wouldn't get your feelings hurt if I asked that question, because you already know me some. I did send you an email regarding your stealing experience. You little thief you! You know I am only kidding. I hope your body and mind are both feeling better, and dont forget your heart!

Yes, I am feeling much better, I spoke to the store's General Manager yesterday and let him have it, he said he is going to handle the situation and get back to me, he just needed to speak with the person from the night before who took my report and such, so he could see why that witch acted that way, what her reasons and excuses were. I have been in that store so many times for the 3 years we have lived here, I have never even acted suspiciously and I have met the owner and most of the top employees, so it seems she was just looking for someone to try and accuse and I became her target. Yes, I am such a shameful little thief, you know the thousands of coupons I have piled on my computer desk right now, more in my coupon binder, plus the ones in inserts that I haven't cut yet, along with the ones my dad and other friends and family save for me just aren't enough. LOL! I need more.

Yeah right.

Anyway, I used to think it was purposeless, just added to keep the med schedule III or lower, but then someone argued with me once, and provided several links to some reports and research that said otherwise.

My personal beliefs still say that is full of bunk, so I really agree with you that it doesn't do much, but some research has shown that it does, at least for some people.

I'd like to see that research. They were probably using a lot of drug addicts or ex-addicts for their trial study, and paying them money to go and get more drugs! Only kidding!
