2012 Oxycodone 30mg Shortage In Florida (Page 6)

Updated

My spouse, who is in severe, chronic pain, has been a customer of Walgreens for many years. We live in Pinellas County, Florida. Everyday this week we have driven from Walgreen's to Walgreen's trying to fill his prescription for Roxicodone 30mg, to no avail. I cannot get any help from his regular pharmacy. I know that it's dangerous for them to tell a total stranger which store has them in stock, but I don't understand since they know him, why they can't call around or give us any assistance. I am at a total loss as to what to do & would appreciate any information that you could provide. It is so hard to see him in so much pain. Thank you.

Obviously a lot of people enjoy being a victim, you can only allow yourself to be victimized, some people do want to know how they can help themselves, some don't....oxycodone is not the endall for pain mgmt., just saying....

Miss Karen for some it is, either we are on so many other meds for our illnesses and the reactions many of the other drugs have are unbearable. Patches cause me to OD hydrocodone swells my throat shut, morphine cause such dehydration and depression I can't stand it, not to mention I would like to be without the pain but I also choose to function as a human being and not just lay around all doped up unable to take care of myself and in the hospital. So with all that in mind unfortunately, oxycodone is the only medication that I can tolerate. I have been on it for 12 years, It took close to a year to get used to oxycodone and not throw up all the time on it.
Personally I wish I could throw it all away and just move on to the next life but God doesn't see fit yet and my children and family do need a somewhat functioning me. One that is able to take the medication and continue through the routine trenches in the best possible shape.
Whats sad is this is ONLY hurting us honest pain patients - the people on the streets still have them. :-(

I know where you're coming from, I am on morphine now, and I feel like a slug....believe me, I love to wake up in the morning, and take my oxy 30, and have so much energy, and feel happy, but I CAN'T find them!! And the alternative is withdrawls which is the worst!!

That's why I am telling people on here, find another drug help yourself from going through withdrawals....why spend all your time looking for oxys....also, the dealers cannot get their hands on this stuff anymore either, theyre dealing dilaudids now....sooo the DEA is making a difference in getting these off the streets. Believe me, as soon as the shortage is over, I will ask my Dr. To RX them for me again, but in the meantime, I'm not going to suffer.

Miss Karen, I have been on Oxycodone 30 mg for approximately 7 or more years; after exhausting EVERY other option beforehand. I did NOT even want to take that, but did so as a last resort, to have some relief. I have 2 small children and I worry about taking a "narcotic". Due to the fact that I have been on them (for what feels like forever), I do NOT get a "euphoric" feeling as people say. I remember that I did in the beginning, but those days are gone (for at least 5-6 yrs) I was previously prescribed 240 per month, then it was
decreased to 180; However, I still only try to take 3 per
day, 4 if absolutely necessary. I did NOT want to "switch" meds because I'm very concerned about what a new med will do to me. I need to always have my "witt's" about me because I take care of my children and I don't need to be "dopey" or have a med alter my state of mind in any way, and this doesn't. I've been
around other people who are on "different" meds and personally think they act/seem "altered" in some degree. I have been doing my "research", and I have an appt to go back yo my Dr to change my scripts. However, I am very apprehensive about doing so.

Dave, the Walgreens I've been using in Sarasota have been saying they do NOT have and they do NOT know when they are going to receive. Are you in the Sarasota area? If you can suggest to me on where I can go that has in stock, I would greatly appreciate it.

You're preaching to the choir, and I know a place that will have them at eight am tomorrow morning in Sarasota, but I'm not making the mad dash down there, I'm too embarrassed, because I've been using that pharmacy for awhile, I don't want them to think I'm desperate, and have a reputation as a drug seeker.
He won't take your script ahead of time and hold it either, I've seen people try to do that, it's first come first serve . And as far as I know, all shipments to Walgreens are still on hold due to DEA inspect, they've had such an increase in sales of oxycodones, they're having some type of audit....DEA must not take into considerations that most places stopped selling oxys, (target, CVS, public, sweetbay, etc. ), that more people have had to change to Walgreens to get their oxys., so of course there sales will increase!

Miss karen, you shouldn't judge legitimate chronic pain sufferers. I too have been prescribed 30 mg roxycodone 5 x's a day for over 2 yrs. I've always taken med as prescribed, gladly submit to month drug test, and am a 50 y/o wife and mother. I couldn't fill my roxycodone prescription last month, and went 2 wks with no med. I had to be switched to opana. It makes me nauseous, and sedated. I have mri's showing herneated discs, among other things. I'm productive member of society, and people like you, have no clue. I pray you never have to live with chronic pain. How dare you pass judgement on people who are suffering. We don't need people like you in this forum. May God bless you with the compassion you seem to lack.

Miss Karen, I see you're a chronic pain sufferer. Aplogies for that. Some of us, can't tolerate other narcotics. Morphine, dilaudid, opana, make me nauseated. I also had gastric bypass and am limited as to what I can take. Im also only precribed 1 narcotic, in addition to lyrica for nerve pain and flexeril for muscle spasms. I came down hard on you, you're lucky you can tolerate morphine etc. I'm not able, nor would I want to be a zombie. Opana 10mg are knocking me for a loop. Don't judge others, for some, roxycodone is our only option.

nicely said panicnpain!!!!! I hate it so much when we come here, maybe to vent, to see if anyone can help with this dilemma, anyone mabe share a pharmacy that does have these in stock and you read some smug know-it-all who just makes you fell angry and even more frustrated. I come here to be a part of the solution, not the problem, and this forum has saved my bacon more than once since I have been out of the oxy-30 since June 11 and like most, cannot tolerate many other pain meds. Thanks for sharing!

Inagony, I wish I had an answer, and understand how frustrating it is to not only be out of med but to be pit down about it too. So people are just clueless. The rest of us cam band together and support one another. I'm sick of most people's bs @ this point. If I ger prescribed the roxycodone and can fill it, I will share it. Im going to tell DR how sick the opana is making me. I don't see any other alternative. God Bless, and many of us care enough to have each others back.

Panic pain, Karen, inagaony, Dave, and anyone else...
After over a week with not being able to fill my scripts, which I've been on for over 7 yrs, I'm returning to Dr tomorrow so he can change my meds. I'm so nervous as to what he will give me as an alternative. As most of you, I do NOT and can NOT be switched to something that will drag me down and make me even more
useless, by putting me on something that will "alter" me functioning daily, in a "zombie" like state. I have 2 small children that rely on me to do "mommy things" all day. I've been on the Oxycodone for years, and although I've built up a tolerance for them, they still seem to help with my pain. I'm only about 115 lbs and I never drink, etc. I'm afraid of "switching" meds, because of all the problems lately with the lack of stock, only to have something new leaving me "out of it". Can anyone give me some advice on the difference between the alternatives??? I want to always be clear headed, not cloudy or drugged. Also, Karen, if you have information of a Pharmacy that will have them in stock tomorrow, would you please share that info with me. As you said, it's always "1st come", 1st served". If you would be kind enough to tell me which place that is, I'd appreciate if you would do so in the morning, this way I would be able to go at that time and maybe have some luck. We do all need to stick together, as others don't understand what life is like of those of us who suffer so greatly without them.

Also wanted to add this to the mix, the DR prescribed me 150 10 mg opanas, and after going to Walgreens and CVS, they both threw it @ me and said they don't carry them. I stopped at a mom and pop pharmacy, and he said he could only fill 90 bc he only had 1 bottle. I asked what happens to the other 60? Can I come back and get the remainder? No, you have to forfeit the other 60. Looked it up, and it's legal in the state of FL to do that. Any way to get screwed, they're doing it to us. Im not stupid, and bc they make me so nauseous, I've been taking only 3 a day. So in pain and sick as a dog. They also cost me $70.00. Believe me, inagony, Im not in your shoes woth none, but I was last month, so I know what you're going through. The last time I got thw roxycodone filled was the beginning of may. They said call next month and we'll put some on the side for you. I did call, and was told the " fill in pharmacist" should've never filled for you, and we've since fired him for filling for you. Don't come back here. In all my life, I've never been looked upon like I am when I show any pharmacy my prescription. Looked upon as an addict amd junkie. At first they're polite, bc I'm always dressed well, and have been a nurse for 33 yrs. I've done so much research on the net of who will help us with our plight. The American pain foundation is gone. I've written the governer, state representative and Senator. Mo replies, bc they don't give a damn. My prayers are with most of you. I will continue to contact people. I was thinking the ACLU. I can recommend a woman on fb who is trying to help pain patients. Her name is ratliffe, donna.friend request her, she constantly posts informative info everyday. The fl pain action network is the name and she's tirelessly working to get it off the ground.

Excuse me, um...I am in chronic pain, and was looking for am answer here regarding the oxycodone shortages. I would rather be getting relief from my pain and not go through withdrawals, sooo, last Thursday my Dr put me on another type of opiate. It's not as good, but my comfort level is bearable, and no withdrawal symptoms. I don't think my pain is any worse than anyone else on here, but people posting on here seem to believe noone has hurt as much as them...give me a break!

Panicnpain, if the pharmacy only has part of your RX, show your Dr., he should be able to write another script for the sixty that you didn't get, and insurance will also pay for those remaining pills also, when you find them at another pharmacy....I've had to deal with forfeiture of some of my meds. Before also....

Miss Karen, I jumped the gun before I read all the posts. No excuses, it was wrong, and I apologize. I wanted to make it understood that some of us can't tolerate other Meds. This is the case for me. I was given dilaudid in hospital after surgery, and was extremely nauseated. Same experience with morphine. Also, the problem with most of those meds is feeling " out of it". I feel that way now with the opana which is oxymorphone. I can barely stay awake and having a hard time dealing with everyday life. I appreciate your suggestion, and I have appt Thursday with pain Dr. I have no clue what he will try next after telling him how nauseous opana has made me. Forgive me, I'm not myself, and everything over the last few months has taken its toll. God Bless
.

Miss Karen, I aware of what you said earlier. ....
I'm scheduled to go back to Dr Tom so he can change meds. However, if I could fill my normal scripts beforehand, then I'll have another month to do more research. Also, my family is relocating next month, and maybe they won't be as hard to fill in our new town...
Anyways, I would like to try once more to fill before I go and have them changed, which I'm extremely worrisome about. Maybe I could "Post" to you at 9am, and you could give me the info.... ?
If you have a better suggestion, please let me know. Also, how are you certain they WILL have??
PS; thank you for trying to help. I really do appreciate.
